Jerry Alexander is running for Madison County Council. He has no plan or vision for the future of Madison County. Jerry’s record clearly demonstrates more concern for his interests and those of his closest cronies.
He puts party politics and special interests before the best interests of the taxpayer. Madison County lags behind peers because of so called leaders like Jerry Alexander. It’s time to send Jerry packing and move Madison County FORWARD!
Jerry a Burden on the Taxpayer and Liability on our Future
In 2018 a building owned by Jerry collapsed in downtown Alexandria Indiana1. The collapse posed a safety threat to neighboring buildings, blocked city streets, forced the closure of neighboring businesses, and limited access to the downtown area2. Instead of cleaning up the mess Jerry left it for the city. The City of Alexandria was forced to borrow $200,000.00 from the water and wastewater utilities to clean up Jerry’s mess3. How can Jerry lead Madison County when he can’t even take care of his own responsibilities?
In addition to serving on the Madison County Council, Jerry was appointed to the Planning Commission. During his time on the Commission Jerry has turned a blind eye to ordinance violations and the rights of citizens. Jerry has voted multiple times to allow continued operations of a salvage yard in a prohibited zoning district. Why does Jerry do this? Is it because Commission President’s, Wes Likens, ties to the operator of this salvage yard?
This salvage yard is responsible for countless violations issued by the Indiana Department of Environmental Management and various other agencies. The Madison County Planning Department has determined this business is not in compliance, yet Jerry votes time and time again to let them stay in business.
Does Jerry care about the non-permitted ponds that flooded the adjoining neighborhood trapping residents in their homes? What about the continued earth works started without a permit flooding the same neighborhood on a regular basis?
Does Jerry care about the hazardous material spill on the property that flowed into the adjoining neighborhood?
Does Jerry care about the batteries and other contaminates scattered through out the site?
Does Jerry care about the non-permitted buildings erected by the property owner?
Does Jerry care about the ditches and culverts in the adjoining neighborhood that were eroded and destroyed due to these actives?
Jerry doesn’t care about the best interest of the community or the average taxpayer.
The salvage yard I’m sure Jerry wouldn’t want in his backyard

Jerry doesn’t care about your rights
Despite expecting the citizens to follow the law Jerry doesn’t feel they apply to him.
Failure to Provide Notice
The right to due process is paramount to our society. It gives citizens a prescribed method to make their voices heard, redress grievances, and support or oppose matters. Unfortunately, the Planning Commission has failed to abide by their own notice rules for years. In many cases interested parties had no knowledge of a petition or their rights to be heard. Brad Newman, Executive Director of the Planning Department testified under oath of this failure and the Planning Commission was made aware. Despite knowledge of the issue the Planning Commission including Jerry continue to vote on matters without providing proper notice to the taxpayer.
Violations of Open Records Laws
The Planning Department under the oversight of Jerry has repeatedly failed to comply with open records laws. Not only does the Planning Department refuse to provide documents but failed to cooperate with the Indiana Public Records Counselor as required by law4.
Violations of Open Door Laws
The Planning Commission which Jerry sits on has failed to provide agendas to the public. The desire to keep the public in the dark appears to be a trend with the Madison County Government5.
Jerry has set silently by as Commission President Likens refuses to let the public speak, limits time without cause, or even cuts them off.
